This friendly setting was first established in 1981. It was taken over by Carol Smart in September 1999 after already working there for 13 years and where the setting gained a fantstic reputation as a kind, inviting and friendly setting where children gain confidence and social skills alongside beginning to develop their knowledge of subjects. In 2009, Carol retired and her daughter, Laura Butler took over the running of the setting. Laura has a child of her own and attended the setting herself as a child. All the staff who have had children have sent their children to The Crescent Playschool.

The Crescent is based in a large church hall where all children of all ages play alongside each other in one very large, light room. Children can start once they have turned 2 years of ages and can continue with us until the start school.

The setting always has a high staff to child ratio and over 50% of staff a day are qualified. At least one member of staff a day is First Aid trained and staff go on regualr courses to keep up to date on codes of practices and to gain fresh knowledge.
